A mirror positioned
against a wooden fence or wall can easily create an illusion of a “hidden
garden” beyond. This one is set at a slight angle so as to make the reflected
view a little less obvious. Some stone flags on the ground are duplicated to
give a definite walk -through effect. The mirror must be well supported by a
padded ,steel frame at the rear. |
Creating a pond like
this one requires careful planning and consideration about drain run-off, the
optional placing of a fountain perhaps and suitably hidden lighting for
night-time viewing of the surrounds. This one was made with
oblong limestone slabs cut to a tapered shape on-site. They are resting on a
block wall pond surround. Special pond heavy duty black PVC prevents water
seepage through the wall and sand bottom. |
Think well ahead when
thinking of what trees to plant, how high they will grow and if they might
eventually overshadow the house, or other plants. Consider how their
different colours will look at various times of the year, or indeed at
different times of the morning and evening. |
Giving yourself a
simple, easy to manage, seasonal fruit and vegetables area can bring a lot of
pleasure and pride in what you can produce and having a variety of ‘always
fresh’ vegetables to enjoy is so much better for you and quite literally pays
for itself . . ! |
An example here of a
porch with abundant shrubs and plants in pots which can be changed around
depending of the time of year. Sitting out on the
bench in this South-facing porch in the early part of the day brings its
reward for this homeowner. |
Plant some blackcurrant
bushes and in the summer have the fruit fresh with the best of Glenisk yogurt
for an absolutely delicious reward for your foresight in planning ahead ! |
Come in and have a chat and maybe you
will see something just right for you ! |
